I know I'm posting this pretty late and the book is well into it's final stages. But, the 'LEAVE A REPLY' form is still available, so here it is:

I am very much interested in: 1) the possibility of SL becoming a platform for business communications, and 2) how existing 1st Life businesses are making use of SL. A good example of what interests me is the Cisco campus in SL. Visitors can learn about various networking technologies, tour the Cisco Connected Home, or attend a virtual conference.

I'm sure there are other businesses using SL in a similar fashion. I just need to do some more exploring...at least until the book comes out! ;)

Ok, at the danger of a bit of self promotion. How about the best machinima gallery in SL, Susi's Machinima gallery, in Ochreous? 20 something different artists, each with their own individual (and we are talking individual here, one is a rabbit hole) cinemas. That, plus a outdoor drive-in/fly-in cinema (which explodes at the end of a performance), pools, etc.

The others I like are the future and the greenies.

Car lovers and auto enthusiasts should check out all the car-related resident builds on Motorati, which is sponsored by Pontiac.

Go-Karts, race tracks, drift games, car dealerships, drive-in theater, and more. It is a vibrant community and the place to meet other car enthusiasts.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/The%20Pond/127/135/41

The number one brand in Second Life holds its own for a reason. The BigPond eleven islands are rich in design, have a race-track, almost permanently popular bars and nightclubs as well as a subtle brand presence which does not infringe on a well-designed virtual world.

Well worth exploring.

This is worth keeping an eye on. It is a blog about establishing a new time zone for students. Most of what happens currently happens within the world of 'America'. This is absolutely the case with teen sites. Sloolaborate aims to get a critical mass of students from the asia pacific region in world simultaneously in order that they to can experience virtual worlds that are actually awake when they are. Ofcourse all countries are welcome but unless you live out of the US and UK time zones you may miss the importance of this initiative.

NOAA (Meteroa) - as an exemplary EPO (Education and Public Outreach) island.

Svarga (who doesn't say Svarga?!)

Weather Channel - but not for the beginner. You have to have basic SL skills down and can figure out how to do things w/o good directions (like the avatar skiing or surfing)

Hedge Maze (Rizal 83, 104, 34) If you can get your friends or students NOT to cheat with the camera, it's a great place for a 'Second Life Team Building Icebreaker' activity.

Ivory Tower of Prim

Great America Networks Conferencing new Conference at Alhambra Island. A fully functional conference sim, but I am nominating it because it is just a beautiful build. Check for yourself at http://www.slurl.com/secondlife/ganc%20/81/83/31

I'd recommend The Shelter.
http://slurl.com/secondlife/isabel/44/244/79/

It's kind of laggy but it's a good place for new people to learn a few things and it's generally a pretty (clean) social place. They also have regular contests to win Lindens.

Health Info Island is a great space to explore.
The Main Pavilion on Health Info Island is simply gorgeous with its stained glass roof and surrounding plantings.
The Consumer Health Library is pretty as well as comfortable.
The very modern design of the Medical Library is not to be missed.
